Nita Monteiro - Artista Visual
Artista visual, nascida em Volta Redonda (RJ) em 1990 e criada em Angra dos Reis (RJ), atualmente vive e trabalha em São Paulo, Brasil.
Sua prática artística se dedica à investigação dos materiais que habitam o espaço doméstico, afetivo e cotidiano. Os fragmentos de objetos presentes em suas obras são tratados não como simples objetos, mas como resquícios de consciência, testemunhos da vida familiar e guardiões de memórias e histórias. A partir desses materiais e outros elementos têxteis, a artista ressignifica, recompõe e cria novas narrativas como uma forma de ficcionalização da vida, entrelaçando histórias ouvidas e vividas, ciência e mito, passado e presente. Ora, são criadas realidades fantásticas, ora, ficções biográficas, sempre buscando estabelecer uma ponte entre passado e presente, permitindo que narrativas possam ser reimaginadas.
Como método de criação, a artista, influenciada pelo universo dos fazeres manuais — uma prática comum na tradição feminina de sua família — resgata e incorpora técnicas do artesanato popular. Além disso, encontra inspiração nas decorações antigas da arquitetura e de seu mobiliário, especialmente aquelas presentes nas casas de seus avós, muitas vezes barrocas ou rococós, que evocam uma estética do excesso. Na obra final, fica evidente a presença do fazer artesanal, da ornamentação exuberante, do exagero e do kitsch, elementos que se tornam recorrentes e essenciais em suas composições.
Formada em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela USP. Em 2025 abriu sua primeira exposição individual intitulada “Seja Bem-vindo. Se vier por bem, pode entrar”, no MARP (Museu de Arte de Ribeirão Preto). Integra o 34º Programa de exposições do Centro Cultural São Paulo. Recebeu o Prêmio Aquisição no 49º SARP e o prêmio honorífico no 18º Salão Ubatuba de Artes Visuais. Participou da Contextile - Bienal de Arte Têxtil Contemporânea em Portugal e de exposições em instituições como o Museu da Inconfidência, Museu Nacional da República, Museu de Arte Moderna da Bahia, Museu Victor Meirelles, Centro Cultural Banco do Nordeste, entre outras. Realizou residências artísticas na Oak Spring Garden Foundation nos Estados Unidos, Córtex Frontal em Portugal, no Instituto de Arte Contemporânea de Ouro Preto e na Casero no Brasil. Sua obra faz parte da coleção do Museu Nacional da República, do MARP e do Museu Nacional de Belas Artes, além de diversas coleções particulares.
Visual artist, born in Volta Redonda (RJ) in 1990 and raised in Angra dos Reis, currently lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil.
Her artistic practice is dedicated to investigating the materials that inhabit the domestic, emotional and everyday space. The fragments of objects present in her works are not treated as mere objects but as remnants of consciousness, witnesses of family life, and guardians of memories and stories. From these materials and other textile elements, the artist resignifies, recomposes, and creates new narratives as a way of fictionalizing life, intertwining stories heard and lived, science and myth, past and present. At times, fantastic realities are created; at other times, biographical fictions, always seeking to establish a bridge between past and present, allowing narratives to be reimagined.
As a creative method, the artist, influenced by the universe of manual craftsmanship—a practice rooted in the feminine tradition of her family—resurrects and incorporates techniques from popular craftsmanship. Additionally, she draws inspiration from the old decorations of architecture and furniture, especially those found in her grandparents' homes, often baroque or rococo, evoking an aesthetic of excess. In the final work, the presence of handcrafted making, exuberant ornamentation, exaggeration, and kitsch is evident—elements that become recurring and essential in her compositions.
Graduated in Architecture and Urbanism from the University of São Paulo (USP). In 2025, she held her first solo exhibition, titled "Welcome. If you come in peace, come on in", at MARP (Museum of Art of Ribeirão Preto). She is part of the 34th Exhibition Program at the São Paulo Cultural Center. She received the Acquisition Prize at the 49th SARP and an honorary award at the 18th Ubatuba Visual Arts Salon.
She participated in Contextile – Contemporary Textile Art Biennial in Portugal, as well as exhibitions at institutions such as the Museum of Inconfidência, National Museum of the Republic, Museum of Modern Art of Bahia, Victor Meirelles Museum, and Banco do Nordeste Cultural Center, among others.
She has undertaken artist residencies at the Oak Spring Garden Foundation (USA), Córtex Frontal (Portugal), the Institute of Contemporary Art of Ouro Preto, and Casero.
Her work is part of the collections of the National Museum of the Republic , MARP and The National Museum of Fine Arts, as well as several private collections.
